About Isaac

Follower of Jesus, husband to Rhonda, father to Jada, Ella, and Lincoln, son of Joel and Becky, brother of Josh and Joel. I am fortunate enough to pastor Summit Church, a community of faith in Orlando, Florida, that we started six years ago. I would like this blog to be helpful for those who read it and, at some point, earn me a lucrative shoe contract.

Sermon Recap--Week 2 on the Ethic of Anticipation

Posted by Isaac Hunter

Yesterday, we talked about finding our identity in Christ. This is an all too familiar phrase, though perhaps misunderstood in the Christian world.
Primary identity in life doesn’t come from the role you fill, the relationships you have, the way you look, the occupation you hold… it comes from your Creator and your ability to connect your value and personhood to Him through Jesus.

He is our standard, our benchmark, and we were made to reflect His glorious goodness. Many people have never given serious thought to asking, "How would my life actually grade out in the eyes of a holy, just, righteous, perfect, truth-telling God?”
So long as you see Jesus as a part of who you are rather than the center of who you are, there will be confusion about your identity. Your fundamental identity is either: redeemed or unredeemed/with or without Christ according to the scriptures. (Don’t mistake this for loved or unloved—love is a given from God!)

The application of yesterday’s sermon was either trust Christ for your salvation, or if you have already trusted Christ for your salvation, be baptized if you have not been. Yesterday’s sermon was very simple.
