First Service At 33rd Street

Posted by Michael

This past Sunday we had our very first service at the 33rd Street Jail and it was a success! Around sixty men attended service as Kyle Cox and Marco Randazzo led worship with Christmas songs (and I’m told that as time went on, the men began to sing along!). Then it was time to hear the message. The men heard Isaac’s Christmas Eve sermon via video. After service, the men got to pray and hang out with Rene, Bill, and the team of volunteers.

On Tuesday, the team of volunteers came back to begin reGROUP. reGROUP will take place every Tuesday night and will set the groundwork for real and lasting change in the lives of these men. Over forty men were in attendance as Jack West gave an overview of what reGROUP was all about. The men were excited to begin, but also concerned about what would happen when they were released from jail. Would they still have a support system on the outside? Jack assured them that they would be able to continue reGROUP when they are released, and if they committed to the program, we would remain committed to them.

As we gear up for our second Sunday at the jail, we still need lots of prayers. Here are a few things you can pray for…

  • Pray that all the technical elements would go smoothly (The music, the video, and the audio).
  • Pray for Rene, Bill, Jack, and the team of volunteers.
  • Pray that we’d be able to set up a good system of aftercare for the men to continue to get the help they need when they are released.
  • Pray for the men at the jail who will be attending service and participating in reGROUP. Pray they would come to know that what they do with their lives matters and God would continue to work in them.
  • Pray for the men’s families, and that they would get plugged into Christ-centered community if they haven’t already.

Thank you for praying! We will continue to post updates about the 33rd Street Jail campus.
