Haggai: Week 1

Posted by Michael

Listen in…Week 1: Last Thing First

This past Sunday was the first week of our Haggai series. We learned the importance of saying “Yes” to God now rather than putting off what we know we should do for a more convenient time.

Most people don’t say “No” to God when He calls them to do something. They say “I’ll do it later”, which is equally as disobedient. The danger is that later is just an excuse.

Is there anything God is calling you to do now that you have said “later” to?

Idleness is what causes things to get out of alignment. If you’re not taking intentional steps forward, you are going backwards. We see this in every area of life. It may never be a “convenient” time to take your children to church; effort must be made in order to grow spiritually. You will never find an ideal time to be generous; you must decide who gets what first.

Is there any area of your life (relationships, finances, prayer time, etc) that you have become idle in? What is one step you can take today to begin moving forward again?

Who’s first in your life – you, or God?

Your priorities determine your choices. Our first priority in life is reflected in the way we order the affections of our hearts.

Saying “Yes, but later…” to God is still disobedience. God can’t bless disobedience, but he can redeem it. It is possible that God will withdraw a blessing for a time until priorities get refocused, just as any good parent would.

It is important to remember that God is with you, even when your priorities are not in the order they should be. There is always grace. God doesn’t wait for us to get everything right before He loves us.

This week, ask God to show you how to take steps toward becoming the kind of person who says “Yes” to him without hesitation.
