The Ethic of Anticipation: Week 5

Listen in: What to do the day after church camp
This is our final week of The Ethic of Anticipation series. A quick recap:
• Our identities have been altered if we are in Christ;
• Our future glory is determined by our faith Jesus;
• The way we live now should be in anticipation of that future glory;
• This isn’t always easy to do; we must surrender our hearts and minds to God and rely on Him for the transformation.
This week we look at two lingering questions in light of the realities listed above:
• Why don’t we change into the kind of people who change the world?
• Why do we sometimes change for the worse?
What are some of those areas in your life?
This occurs when we forget or are deceived about who we really are, and give in to the temptation to act in a way that does not reflect the glory God calls us to. We lose sight of the reality of how big God is and how capable he is to transform lives. We get stuck thinking that nothing will ever change and resign ourselves to our circumstances.
Where do you need to start cooperating with God and receiving his truth rather than being deceived into passivity?
Christ’s willingness to meet us where we are is not an endorsement to stay there.
In fact, the more time we spend listening to Jesus and what he has to say to us, we cannot help but recognize the sin that is present in our lives and in this world and want to do something about it. We are not self-sustaining creatures; we have to be fed spiritually and physically.
Where is your spiritual nourishment coming from right now?
If we choose not to be fed by God, then we risk trading our identity for next to nothing because we are starving. Three things make up spiritual nourishment: community, rest and dwelling on God’s word.
Are you involved in community with others who are seeking spiritual nourishment?
Are you finding rest and fulfillment in God and His truth on a daily basis?
