What we are doing in Africa is the manifestation of what God is doing in the hearts of people at Summit. As part of our corporate and individual challenge for Summit Church and our mission in Africa, we have asked you to Pray, Get Educated, Go, and Get Involved. GET EDUCATED is divided into two parts. The first, Acquaint, will help you know the basic facts about the AIDS pandemic. The second part, Dig Deeper, will connect you to comprehensive information about the pandemic, including what is being done, who is involved, and what Summit is trying to accomplish.

Acquaint

There are over 25 million people infected with AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, the worst affected region of the world. AIDS in Africa has orphaned more than 12 million children, leaving whole villages populated with mainly children and the elderly. There is no easy explanation of why things are this way specifically in Africa. Answering the question involves layers of poverty, health, politics, culture, and history. Below are links and other resources that will help you acquaint yourself with the basic parameters with which to look at the AIDS pandemic.

Dig Deeper

For the last several years, billions of dollars have been thrown at the AIDS pandemic. Money has been spent on education, prevention, care, marketing, and any other conceivable means of influencing the outcome of the AIDS pandemic. Now the world is looking to the church to figure out what to do next. All of the experts agree that the best-laid plans have resulted in only minimal success. They also agree that if we cannot stop AIDS in the next twenty years, then the whole face of the globe will change. The pandemic will continue to spread to Asia, Russia, and South America, while Africa will be left with nearly 40 million orphans who even now are being raised and recruited into extremist military movements.

In the midst of this human tragedy we find conflict and consensus over strategy, morality, religion, race, economics, and politics. Below are links and other resources that will help you dig deeper into the AIDS pandemic and all that surrounds it.
