What we are doing in Africa is the manifestation of what God is doing in the hearts of people at Summit. As part of our corporate and individual challenge for Summit Church and our mission in Africa, we have asked you to Pray, Get Educated, Go, and Get Involved. Below you will find a guide to praying for Africa that includes systemic issues around the AIDS pandemic, Summit’s developing strategy, specific ministry partners in Africa, and our Going Global teams.

Systemic Issues

Pray for the more than 25 million infected with AIDS in Africa, and the 12 million children who have been orphaned by AIDS.

In addition to AIDS, sub-Saharan Africa is afflicted with extreme poverty, disease, poor infrastructure, negative cultural norms, and political corruption. All of these conditions have contributed to the spread of AIDS. Pray for the poor, sick, and vulnerable who are affected by these symptoms.

Pray for churches in Africa. We have quickly learned that God is working through his people in Africa, and in many ways the world is looking to see what the church will do. Pray that God will continue to strengthen his people.

Pray for the political leaders in Africa. There is so much opportunity for abuse of power in many African countries. Pray that God will break the hearts of the leaders for the people, and that political leaders all over Africa will be courageous in protecting the vulnerable and poor in their countries.

Summit’s Strategy

Pray for Summit’s partnership with COTN, for the construction of the secondary school in Malawi, and that it will successfully launch in 2010.

Pray for the hundreds of children sponsored by the Summit community, and those yet to be sponsored.

Pray for the leadership at Summit to know how best to partner in beating AIDS in Africa.

Pray that we will invest money, time, and resources wisely.

Pray that God will continue to lead us into the right ministry relationships.

Pray that we will be able to draw other local churches into action.

Pray for all of the people who will join a Summit mission team in 2010.
