We are all living stories. You might be living one you like—filled with highlight reels and feel-good moments. Or maybe yours isn’t quite turning out the way you thought it would, and is instead a tale of disappointment and loss. But what if your story matters as part of a greater narrative? One that God is writing in and through your life at its best and at its worst. A story in which God redeems all of our individual stories for the sake of His.

WEEK 1

January 3, 2016

Zach Van Dyke

As Teaching Minister Zach Van Dyke continues our Story of God series, we now look to the book of Revelation and find a story of hope— the story that tells us that God wins in the end. Jesus calls Himself the first and the last. We find here that in order to really follow Him, we must realize that Jesus is not a means to an end, but the end itself.

WEEK 2

January 10, 2016

Zach Van Dyke

This week, we continue in Revelation to look at what the Church is called to do. Reading the letter to the church in Sardis, we find a people that are doing and teaching all the right things, but still find themselves “falling asleep.” However, God was and still is calling His Church to be great, to do more than go through the right motions.

WEEK 3

January 17, 2016

Zach Van Dyke

This week, we read a letter to the church in Laodicea who received a warning about being lukewarm in their faith. We find that the people of this church had been seeking self-sufficiency instead of dependency on God. Jesus goes on to urge the Laodiceans to instead be zealous and repent, while emphasizing that God disciplines those who He loves. In order to become zealous in our faith, God must become our one thing, allowing our service to cease being lukewarm and our works to build something eternal alongside the God of the universe.

WEEK 4

January 24, 2016

Zach Van Dyke

As we read God’s letter of preparation to the church in Philadelphia(who are about to face great suffering), we have to consider why God allows His children to suffer and how we are to respond to suffering. Just as God points out to the Church in Philadelphia, we will face closed doors in life. We learn, however, that how we endure a closed door prepares us for the doors God plans to open for us.

WEEK 5

January 31, 2016

Zach Van Dyke

In the final week of The Story Of God series, we look for what we— as individuals and as a church— are built for. We are built for worship. John’s vision, recorded in Revelation, reveals the truth of the one who is truly worthy of our worship. Since we are hardwired for worship, we will worship something. After looking at the worldly things we often worship and what affect that has on us, we’re able to see what happens when we direct our worship toward God.
