Light

52

Christmas did not begin on the night when God broke into time and wrapped Himself in flesh. The plan to redeem humanity began long before, when a bite from some forbidden fruit severed the perfect relationship between Creator and creation. But darkness did not get the final word that day.

God’s desire to be with us overcame our instinct to run and hide. He has never been one to leave us fumbling around in total darkness. So the light that was the light of men came into the darkness, and the darkness cannot overcome it.

Just as God illuminated the world when He said, “Let there be light,” he also illuminated the darkness in our lives when He sent Jesus. Because of Him, comfort and peace now replace anxiety. Hope replaces despair. Light replaces darkness. Christmas is God’s personal invitation to all of humanity to come to Him and embrace His Light
